The Healing and Empowerment Program (HEP) at the Quest Center is a program for survivors of breast cancer and women in treatment. HEP is a comprehensive and innovative prevention, treatment, and support program in a community-based setting. In addition to complementary medicine treatment and group and individual counseling and support, we have art and writing workshops, and our unique Eat To Beat Breast cancer nutritional lecture/cooking series.
At HEP, people affected by breast cancer become empowered to heal their bodies and spirits, developing a lifelong plan for wellness. HEP offers coordinated care between conventional and complementary medicine through an individualized treatment plan designed by participants in one-on-one collaboration with a Nurse Care Coordinator. We also offer groups including:
BREAST CANCER NOTEBOOK: Participants explore feelings and experiences that follow the diagnosis & treatment of breast cancer. Find community support with decision-making and life coping skills among others who are walking the breast cancer path.
Facilitated by Dr. Lusijah Marx.
YOGA FOR BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS: Develop a practice that promotes relaxation and reduces stress and anxiety while enhancing the immune, lymphatic and musculoskeletal systems. There will be time devoted to sharing stories and developing community.
Facilitated by Debbie Flittner
EAT TO BEAT BREAST CANCER: This informative and well-researched group is held in our teaching kitchen at the Quest Center. Naturopath Dr. Louise Tolzmann delivers food for thought about the development and maintenance of a Healthy Breast Diet. Each session we prepare a nutritious meal demonstrating how to cook the recipes we provide in handouts. The group also provides information on how to plan and implement a walking-based exercise program.
Facilitated by Dr. Louise Tolzmann and Andrea Nakayama.
HEP ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC: Group acupuncture offers support and community for people surviving chronic and life-threatening illness. It can relieve the side effects of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation, and reduce stress and anxiety, depression and other symptoms that may arise during and following treatment for breast cancer.
Facilitated by Dr. David Eisen
MAKING ART/CREATING COMMUNITY: These workshops are designed to allow time and space for creativity and self-nurturing and are facilitated by professional artist. Take time to make art, write, dance and connect with others who have walked the breast cancer path.
WHAT'S NEXT?: This new group is for women who have completed the acute phase of Breast Cancer treatment and want to explore ways to integrate the experience into their lives in a meaningful way. Continue your journey with a supportive group of spirited women
Facilitated by Wendy Neal D.O.
